Broken and Beautiful Teachers, I Love You

Hey there, broken and beautiful teacher. I see you, and I love you. I was you. And I walked away.

You see, our hearts are big and bold and strong, but we break. We break under the pressures of impossible standards, perfection in working tirelessly with no breaks during a time in which you need to plan and in which you need to breathe. We break when our bosses gaslight us. You are your strongest advocate, broken and beautiful teacher. The mental health of our teachers is imperative for surviving - and dare I say - thriving? Remember thriving?

Standardized testing when a mass group of students are anything but standard is an impossible feat. The variety of test scores do not define you as much as you know the scores do not define your students.

The mass exodus of teachers isn't going away. Our kids deserve the best, and WE need to be at our best in order to meet their truly individualized, custom, loving attention.

And so.

And so we rise. We show families that yes, there is another way. There is a way to change the system by breaking the system and reinventing the system. We, the teachers, become the leaders of change.

One day, I realized that the worthless way I felt when I was in public schools wasn't my fault at all. I wasn't going to remain beaten down, bruised, and broken.
